Lets explore this new season, if I asked you to describe Autumn what would you say?
-Would you describe the colours in the trees?
-Would you talk about the sounds of leaves crunching under foot?
-Would you share the experience of your hands wrapped around a warm pumpkin spice latte?
We have all experienced this season time and time again, we have memories of the past and a preposition of what we expect to see and feel at this time of year.
Children are yet to experience this and even if this isn't their first Autumn their brain is in a very different place developmentally then it was last year.
So how can you give them the best experiences to learn through play and discovery?
Start by exploring the wonders that are around you, go for a walk and collect items along the way.
Why not use the Easy Hold Magnifier on your adventures
You can then bring these items inside and add them to play set ups.
Conkers and acorns are one of the best loose part resources, add some pots and scoops and watch as your little one explores.
Within this play there are opportunities for discussion around number, around texture and around imaginative play so ask lots of open ended questions and narrate what you see.
Add some woodland animals if your little one likes to be imaginative, add some channels for pouring if your little one loves to watch the movements of objects.
However your little one chooses to play, their style, their schema, watch this play and see how you can extend their learning.
Why not add another element to their play with grains such as rice, seeds or cereal.
When extending discussion around experiences why not include some Autumn themed books around your play set ups and then add these into your bedtime routine.
